China Says Its Military Modernization Not Targeted at Any Country

BEIJING – Chinese spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense,Ren Guoqiang, on Thursday criticized a Japanese report for making baseless comments about China’s national defense and military modernization.
When asked about the “China Security Report 2021” published by the Japanese National Institute for Defense Studies in mid-November, Ren Guoqiang noted during a press conference that the comments made are not objective, it is irresponsible, nonprofessional and totally untenable.
The spokesperson stressed that China is always committed to the path of peaceful development and strongly supports the defense policy which is defensive in nature and the military strategy of active defense.
China’s decision to modernize its national defense and armed forces does not target any country and will not pose a threat to other countries, Ren said.
Facts have repeatedly proven that the development and growth of China’s military force means the development and growth of force for world peace, the spokesperson said.
Ren urged the concerned parties to let go of the Cold War mentality, to view the development of China’s national defense and armed forces objectively and rationally, and to do more things that are conducive to Sino-Japanese relations and regional peace and stability, rather than the other way around.
Talking about the current situation on the Sino-Indian border following a military meeting between the two sides, he said China expects India to safeguard peace and stability along the border with a sincere attitude and through positive actions.
Since the eighth meeting at the level of the China-India Corps commanders on November 6, the situation at the Sino-Indian border has remained broadly stable, he said.
The two sides agreed to seriously implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and to ensure that their respective frontline troops exercise restraint and avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations, Ren said.
