China Slams U.S. ‘Double Standards’ on Anti-Terrorism

BEIJING – The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday urged the United States to stop using Xinjiang-related issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs, CGTN reported Monday.
Some U.S. politicians ignore the facts and slander China’s policy on the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, revealing American double standards on anti-terrorism, said spokesperson Geng Shuang. He said that China firmly opposed that type of behaviour.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday called on all countries to resist China’s demands to repatriate ethnic Uygur people, saying “China’s campaign in Xinjiang is not about terrorism.”
Xinjiang affairs are purely China’s internal affairs that brook no foreign interference, Geng said, adding that China has released a white paper that provides a comprehensive introduction to Xinjiang’s vocational skills and education training programs.
China’s efforts are of no different from other countries, including the U.S., in preventing terrorism, said Geng.
He continued that these efforts have paid off and Xinjiang currently enjoys social stability, positive growth momentum and harmony among all ethnic groups, and has not witnessed any violent terrorist incidents in the past three years.
Recently, ambassadors and diplomats from several countries visited Xinjiang and got to know the reality of Xinjiang’s vocational skills and education training centers, Geng said
They spoke highly of the Chinese government’s measures in combating and preventing terrorism in accordance with the law and recognized Xinjiang’s positive experience that can be shared by more countries, Geng added.
“We advise certain people in the United States to abandon their double standards, stop using Xinjiang-related issues to point the finger at China, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, or it will only damage the interest of the U.S. itself,” Geng stressed.
