BEIJING – China has provided Covid-19 vaccine aid to Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe and will help 19 other African countries as part of its pledge to make vaccines a global public good, said Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin, on Monday.
China will also help companies export Covid-19 vaccines to African countries that urgently needs, recognize and have authorized the emergency use of Chinese vaccines, Wang said.
The aid is a clear manifestation of traditional China-Africa friendship, he said, adding that China will continue to provide support and assistance to the extent of its capabilities and in accordance with Africa’s needs.
Meanwhile, China is welcoming and supporting France and other European and American countries in providing vaccines to help Africa fight the pandemic, Wand said during a press briefing.
He made the remarks when invited to comment on French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks at the Munich security conference that Europe and the United States should immediately provide enough doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Africa, otherwise African countries could choose to buy vaccines from China and Russia, with that “the strength of the West will be a concept and not a reality”.
