China Vows to Fight Back If US Tries to Oppress Beijing

TEHRAN – Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian slammed US remarks on Hong Kong on Friday, saying it opposes international intervention in this particular administrative area.
Zhao said Beijing is seeking cooperation and dialog with Washington but will fight back if the US tries to pressure China, RIA Novosti reported.
The South China Morning Post newspaper announced the day before, citing sources that Beijing was set to table a resolution that will require the National People’s Congress to pass national security legislation to ban secession and foreign intervention in Hong Kong during its upcoming session.
Violent demonstrations have rocked Hong Kong since June. Initially several protesters took to the streets to condemn a controversial extradition bill, however, protests persisted and turned violent even after October’s unpopular legislation was removed.
Beijing announced that the situation in Hong Kong was the result of foreign interference in China’s domestic affairs and expressed full support for preventing violence and restoring order by local authorities.
