Climate Change Affects Food Security: UN

NEW YORK – Climate change is affecting the availability, access, use and stability of food security, the UN said Thursday in a report showing its danger and its effects on the planet.
“When land is degraded, it becomes less productive, limiting crops and reducing soil capacity to absorb carbon,” according to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
“This exacerbates climate change, while climate change in turn aggravates soil degradation in many different ways.”
He said that land, which must remain productive for food security, is already under increasing pressure for human activities and climate change.
“Better land management can help tackle climate change, but it is not the only solution,” he said.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from all fields is also essential.
The IPCC said coordinated action to tackle climate change can both improve land, food security and nutrition, and help eliminate hunger.
The IPCC was established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Program and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide policy makers with periodic scientific assessments of climate change, its implications and possible future risks, as well as Introduce adaptation and mitigation strategies, depending on your website.
