Climate Change Greatest Threat to Global Health: WHO

GENEVA – According to the World Health Organization (WHO), climate change is the biggest threat to global health in the 21st century.
In a recent report, the WHO reported that health professionals have a duty to protect people from environmental changes, infectious disease outbreaks and malnutrition effects, as well as to treat people affected by cancer and other non-communicable diseases caused by pollution from the setting.
The study is aimed at raising awareness of climate change’s health effects.
Also, the WHO called on the global health community to add their voice to the call for a strong and effective climate agreement.
The climate agreement is aimed at reducing climate change and improving health, including reducing the number of deaths from air pollution caused by cancer and respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
The agreement committed to contribute to the development and implementation of climate change mitigation initiatives and the security of nations, populations and workplaces.
