Erdogan addresses joint session of Pakistani Parliament

ISLAMABAD – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that he was grateful and happy to have had the opportunity to address the joint session of parliament in Pakistan.
In his speech, Erdogan thanked the Pakistani people and leaders for the warm welcome given to him upon arrival.
“During my stay in Pakistan, I feel like I am at home,” he said.
“Today, relations between Pakistan and Turkey are admirable for others. In difficult times, Pakistan has supported Turkey,” said Erdogan.
“Our friendship is based on love and respect. The pain of Pakistan is ours,” said the Turkish president.
Speaking on the issue of occupied Kashmir, the Turkish President said that Indin Occupied Kashmir is for Turkey, the way it is for Pakistan over the years.
“Relations between Pakistan and Turkey will continue in the future as in the past,” he added.
In his speech, the Turkish president also said that Turkey had supported Pakistan on issues related to the fight against terrorism.
“We assure Pakistan of Turkey’s support for the Financial Action Task Force,” said Erdogan.
“The positive investment and trade measures taken by Pakistan are improving the business conditions in the country. Economic progress is not achieved in a few days, but requires constant efforts,” said the Turkish president.
The Turkish President had previously reached the Parliament to address the joint session of the Parliament.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan greeted the Turkish President upon his arrival in Parliament.
The Chairman Senate, Sadiq Sanjrani, the President of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and other senior officials, including the heads of the armed forces, were also present on the occasion.
The Turkish president last spoke to a joint session during his visit to the country in late 2016.
Sadiq Sanjrani said that the Turkish president stood out among the world leaders in supporting Pakistan when India annexed occupied Kashmir in August last year.
“Not only that, he always supported the cause of Kashmir, which the Pakistanis very much appreciate,” he said.
