Pakistan Says Kashmir is A Permanent Feature of OIC Agenda

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistani Foreign Ministry, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, on Thursday rejected India’s “bogus propaganda and disinformation campaign”, saying the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a permanent feature on the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) agenda.
Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, in his weekly press briefing, passed the remarks in response to reports that the OIC agenda available online made no mention of Kashmir among the issues that were to be discussed.
“The dispute in Kashmir remains a constant issue on the OIC’s agenda and the organization has spoken out unambiguously on the issue for decades, through a succession of summits and a resolution from the CFM,” said the Spokesperson.
Chaudhri said that the OIC has repeatedly spoken out on the issue since New Delhi’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019.
He added that the OIC General Secretariat has repeatedly called for the settlement of the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir according to UN Security Council Resolutions.
The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir has also met three times in the past 15 months, while the contact group last met at the level of foreign ministers in June of this year.
“The final communiqué of this meeting called on India to reverse its illegal actions and end the gross human rights violations in the illegally occupied territory and the CFM session in Niger marks the first such meeting after India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019,” said the spokesperson.
Chaudhri was confident that the meeting of foreign ministers would reaffirm their strong support for the Kashmir cause.
“Let me confirm that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute continues to be among the oldest items on the OIC agenda,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, while appreciating Pakistan’s role as a founding and active member of the OIC, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering support in the conflict of Jammu and Kashmir, the Foreign Ministry said.
OIC Secretary General held talks with the Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, at a meeting held in preparation for the 47th Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council (FMC) in Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The secretary-general told Qureshi that his special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir visited Pakistan and the Azad Jammu Kashmir earlier this year and his report will be submitted to the CFM.
Foreign Minister, Qureshi, expressed his gratitude for the constant and historic support of the OIC to the cause of Kashmir and also informed the Secretary General of Pakistan’s initiative to adopt a resolution on the Islamophobia by the 47th CFM.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Pakistan’s deep concern over the worsening humanitarian and human rights situation at the Jammu and Kashmir, and the steps taken by India to change the demography of the occupied territory, in flagrant violation of UN resolutions and international law, including the 4th Geneva Convention.
The meeting was also attended by the Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary General for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Yousef Al-Dodeay, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the OIC and other senior officials.
