Russia Expresses Willingness to Enhance Ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Russia will help boost the economy of Pakistan by working together in different fields, including aircraft manufacturing, AA reported Thursday.
Radio Pakistan announced that visiting Russian trade minister Denis Valentinovich told reporters in the capital Islamabad that his country looked forward to joint collaborations.
“To revive the Steel Mills and increase their profitability, we will expand cooperation to Pakistan,” the Russian minister said.
Pakistan Steel Mills, a mega industrial complex with a production capacity of more than one million tons of iron and steel foundries, was established in 1973 with the Soviet Union’s contribution.
He said his country would also like to cooperate in the aircraft manufacturing sector with Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Minister of Economy, Hammad Azhar, also addressing reporters welcomed the offer, saying that there is enormous scope for cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries.
“There are enormous opportunities for improving cooperation in the fields of trade, business relationships, and communications with citizens,” Azhar said.
He added that his country wants a strategic partnership to transform relations with Russia.
Earlier at a delegation-level meeting in the Foreign Ministry, both countries agreed to increase the volume of bilateral trade from the current levels to their real potential through greater cooperation and increased business activities by both countries’ private sector.
The Russian side called on Pakistan to arrange a road show in Moscow to give Russian private companies an opportunity to explore new avenues in Pakistan.
On the other side, Pakistan has invited Russia to attend the country’s trade fairs.
There is also a Russian business delegation in Pakistan holding meetings to discuss opportunities with Pakistani business people.
