Trump Authorizes Transition to Biden Administration

WASHINGTON – US President, Donald Trump, said Monday evening that he was advising his team to begin “initial protocols” for a transition to the administration of President-elect, Joe Biden.
Emily Murphy, the administrator of the US General Services Administration (GSA), an agency independent of the government, informed Biden in a letter that he can now access millions of dollars in federal funds and other resources to get started his transition to power.
“As stated, due to recent developments involving legal challenges and certifications of election results, I have decided that you can access the post-election resources and services described in section 3 of the law upon request,” she declared.
Murphy said she made the decision independently, citing the law and the facts available.
“I have never been pressured directly or indirectly from any executive branch official – including those who work in the White House or the GSA – regarding the content or timing of my decision,” she added.
In a tweet, Trump thanked Murphy for his dedication to the country.
He said Murphy “has been harassed, threatened and abused – and I don’t want to see that happen to her, her family or the GSA employees.”
“Our case continues STRONG, we will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will win! Nonetheless, in the best interest of our country, I recommend Emily and her team do what needs to be done regarding the protocols, and I told my team to do the same.”
The tweet came weeks after the November 3 presidential election when Biden is the expected winner and is set to be inaugurated in January.
Trump disputes the election results and claims he will win the race for the White House.
Yohannes Abraham, executive director of Biden’s transition, welcomed the news from the GSA.
“This final decision is a final administrative measure to officially begin the transition process with federal agencies.”
“In the coming days, transition officials will begin meeting with federal officials to discuss the pandemic response, get a full account of our national security interests, and gain a full understanding of the efforts of the administration to hollow out the government agencies,” Abraham said.
