US Designates 20 Individuals, Entities on Iran

WASHINGTON – The United States on Thursday appointed 20 people and entities to support the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard (QGC) Force (IRGC-QF) to violate Iraqi sovereignty and exploit its economy.
“Some of these people help provide the financial support that allows the CGRI-QF to transfer lethal aid to Iranian-backed terrorist groups such as Kata’ib Hezbollah (KH) and Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq (AAH ), and to engage in other malicious activities that undermine the Iraqi government’s energy independence efforts,” US State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
The designations also include entities and individuals who exploit Iraq’s dependence on Iranian electricity imports for the benefit of the IRGC-QF.
Iraq is authorized to carry out financial transactions related to the import of electricity from Iran, through a waiver of sanctions issued by the United States.
“Today’s designations emphasize that the United States will not tolerate malicious Iranian actors profiting from transactions that take place as part of the lifting of sanctions, and we will remain focused on sanctioning those who do so in the first place profit from the CGRI-QF or other designated terrorist groups,” said Ortagus.
Listed companies include the Reconstruction Organization of the Holy Shrines in Iraq (ROHSI), an organization controlled by IRGC-QF based in Iran, and the Iraqi company Bahjat al Kawthar Company for Construction and Trading Ltd, also known as Kosar Company.
“The United States has regular dialogues with the Iraqi government on energy security, and we support measures that reduce Iraq’s energy dependence on Iran,” the statement said.
