Iran “Never Seeks War” with US: Rouhani

TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke on the phone with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, while Tehran and Washington clashed in a war of words after Iran overturned an American drone last week, TRT World reported Wednesday.
Rouhani said Iran “never seeks war” with the United States. State Media Agencies reported Wednesday, in a context of growing tensions between the two countries.
“Iran has no interest in increasing tensions in the region and never seeks war with any country, including the United States,” the Iranian president told the official IRNA news agency.
“We have always been committed to regional peace and stability and we will make efforts in this regard,” Iran’s President told Emmanuel Macron.
Iran on Tuesday criticized the new US sanctions against the main leader of the Islamic Republic and other top officials, saying these measures meant the “permanent closure” of diplomacy between the two countries.
President Donald Trump issued Monday new sanctions against Khamenei and his associates, US authorities also announced that they were considering sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, angering Rouhani in his televised speech on Tuesday.
For his part, the Iranian president described the White House as “afflicted by mental retardation.”
Rouhani called sanctions against the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, “scandalous and dumb”, especially since the 80-year-old cleric has no intention of stepping to the United States.
Rouhani said the new US sanctions showed that Washington was “lying” on its offer to negotiate at a time when she is asking for negotiations, on the other hand it is trying to punish the foreign minister, it’s a white lie said Rouhani.
He also questioned the logic of Khamenei’s blacklist and said he had shown that Washington was “confused”.
The leader’s assets are a Hosseiniye (Shiite place of worship) and a simple house, our leaders do not look like the leaders of other countries who have billions in a foreign account to punish, confiscate or block, he said.
You approve the Foreign Minister at the same time as a request for talks, Rouhani said.
Iran will never seek a nuclear weapon, Javad Zarif said, according to the IRIB news agency.
He pointed to the US’s previous use of nuclear weapons and Trump’s recent comments that he cancelled a military attack on Iran.
“Were you really worried about 150 people, how many did you kill with a nuclear weapon, how many generations did you kill with these weapons?” Zarif said.
The United States is the only country that used nuclear weapons during the war, including two during the Second World War.
“We are the ones who, because of our religious views, will never seek a nuclear weapon,” he added.
US National Security Advisor John Bolton said Washington was still willing to talk to Iran.
“The President has left the door open for real negotiations to completely and verifiable eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons program, its search for ballistic missile launch systems, its support for international terrorism and other perverse behaviors in the world “. he said.
All that Iran has to do is go through this open door.
The sanctions follow Iran’s fall last week of a $ 100 million surveillance drone in the Strait of Hormuz, an attack that aggravated the crisis in the Persian Gulf.
After the demolition of the drone, Trump withdrew from military attacks in retaliation, but continued his campaign of pressure against Iran.
Last year, Trump again imposed sanctions on Iran after withdrawing the United States from the nuclear pact signed by the world powers with Tehran in 2015.
Other countries remained in the agreement, which eased the sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for the reduction of its nuclear program.
