Trump Maps Return to the Campaign Trail

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump prepared to return to the election track on Friday with a pair of weekend rallies after his Covid-19 diagnosis ruled him out for a week in the race against Democratic candidate Joe Biden to the White House.
Trump, who announced he had been infected with the coronavirus on October 2 and spent three nights in a military hospital on treatment, said Thursday evening he was feeling “perfect” and, with the blessing of a doctor, intended to campaign in Florida on Saturday and Sunday in Pennsylvania.
Trump’s illness prevented him from travelling the country to rally support and raise funds in the final weeks leading up to the November 3 election. A return to events in person would be aimed at convincing voters that he is healthy enough to campaign and govern.
While Trump has posted several videos on Twitter, he has not appeared in public since returning from the hospital on Monday.
Biden continued to campaign, with events scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Guidelines from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say people severely affected by Covid-19 may need to stay home for up to 20 days after the first symptoms appear.
Biden, who has sharply criticized Trump’s handling of the pandemic, beats the Republican in national polls. However, that lead is narrower in some of the swaying states that could determine the election outcome.
White House doctor, Sean Conley, said in a memo released Thursday that Trump has completed treatment for Covid-19, has remained stable since returning from hospital and could resume public engagements on Saturday.
Sounding hoarse and sometimes stopping and clearing his throat, Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview Thursday night that he was likely to be tested for the virus on Friday.
The White House declined to say when Trump last tested negative.
