Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Discuss Regional Security Issues

ASHQABAD – The Presidents of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani met on Wednesday.
The two heads of states’ main issue on the agenda was ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, Trend reported via Turkmenistan State News Agency.
Gurbanguly also showed willingness regarding efforts aimed at stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan, and restoration of its economy.
The state and prospects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the possibilities for a significant increase in the volume and diversification of trade were also discussed.
The conflict in Afghanistan considered a major obstacle to the implementation of infrastructure projects in the region, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (TAPI).
However, Afghanistan has said that it can ensure the safety of the route.
